2016 has been a busy and exciting year for all of us at Clondalkin Flexible Packaging with several new products coming to market, industry award wins, new appointments and a new ownership deal announced with Egeria. Here we take a quick look back at some of this year’s highlights.
We kick started the year in January with what was to be one of several award wins for our FleXtreme® printing technique ; a new generation in flexo printing that offers print quality comparable with gravure, but at a much more competitive cost level. This was closely followed by the launch of our unique lidding solution for a revolutionary new tea machine from Unilever which went on to be a finalist in the World Beverage Innovation awards, Best Closure category.
As always the focus on innovation continued throughout the rest of the year. We introduced the ultra thin shrink sleeve helping customers to reduce both unit costs, as well as the environmental impact of their packaging. Developments around shrink sleeves didn’t stop there and in September we officially launched our tactile printing technology, allowing us to print tactile features, such as ‘relief’ and ‘soft touch’ on both shrink sleeves and pre-cut lids.
Further investment in pre-cut lid capabilities means we are currently the only pre-cut lid manufacturer in the UK with SMARTembossing technology; a unique and innovative embossing system that enhances print quality and increases branding opportunities on foil lids.
In addition to introducing new innovations and technology the company added further expertise this year with various new appointments including Chris Button as Sales Manager for UK Flexibles and Tom Kleinschmidt as Sales Director for Confectionary Packaging for the Rotterdam and Freital business.
Demand has continued to rise for flexible packaging solutions that offer good shelf life extension properties and help reduce food waste, such as our SkinTight® range, a film providing very high barrier properties, and our retort stand up pouches and lidding solutions.
As we move into 2017, research and development of flexible packaging solutions that offer real added value to our customers continues to be the driving force of our business. We approach this with our usual focus on exceeding customer demands whilst driving down costs and reducing waste.
